Status : OnlineWhat you are describing is trying to log into the shell with a user that is an "ftp only" user (not authorized shell access). Go to Control Panel -> Users -> Manage Users, select the "Edit" link adjacent to the user you are having trouble with, and make sure that the radio button for "shell" is selected. Submit the form, and wait for it to take effect (usually a matter of a few minutes).
Status : OnlineWhen I try to log using ssh or telnet, putty just closes. I enter my username and password, and putty closes. If I enter an incorrect password, it prompts for the password again. Any ideas what is happening? Thanks! Putty keeps closing on me. Discussions & Questions. davethis.

Status : OnlineWhat's new to me is Putty instantly closes the entire session window. The user can open a new Putty session and login normally with the new password. In my past experience, after the users changes his password, they should just return to a prompt - not tossed out of Putty. Ideas? Thanks. - Mike

Status : OnlineThe SSH session closes (and PuTTY with it) as soon as the command finishes. Normally the "command" is shell. As you have overridden this default "command" and yet you want to run the shell nevertheless, you have to explicitly execute the shell yourself:
